since 3D work takes a ton more time than 2D it doesn't really work for commissions, but you can do what 2D artists can't do, provide value outside of art. You can make some assets and sell them in a pack or learn a skill needed in the industry and bake normals, photoscan or retopologize, that makes money, there isn't such labor intensive alternative in 2D. Most industry professionals charge in hundreds or thousands of dollars because their work takes from weeks to months to do.
